Calgary’s trans community is on the smaller side, with fewer LGBT-centered spots.
But the good thing is that we have lots of event organizers here putting on drag shows.
Plus, there are also a few cool online groups to potentially connect with trans people.
Luckily, you won’t have to find them on your own because this guide has all the info that you need.
So stick with me as I share some tried and tested ways to meet trans individuals in Calgary!

List of TG Friendly Venues in Calgary
1. Bars and Clubs
The biggest problem with Calgary is that the city doesn’t have a defined queer district.
However, areas like Inglewood, 17th Avenue, and Beltline are known to be popular among trans people.
Even then, there are like only three LGBT bars in the city, which are:
The Backlot at 209 10 Ave SW – This place offers a cozy dive-bar feel. It’s the perfect spot to grab some drinks with TGs or a night out with friends, especially on fun-themed nights like karaoke.
The bartenders here know how to make you feel at home. My favorite is Evan, he’s always fun to talk to! The only bummer is that prices tend to rise on the weekends.
Infinity Ultra Lounge at 811 1 St SW – A charming little bar that’s slowly becoming a hotspot among trans men and women.
The variety of shows is amazing, especially its Erotic Cabaret nights on Thursdays. You can also enjoy regular drag performances on Saturdays.
Twisted Element at 1006 11 Ave SW – A safe and welcoming space for trans people.
The drag show had me cheering the whole time and after that everyone started dancing almost like the place transitioned into a nightclub.
Instead of putting it in words, this video shows a glimpse of the kind of vibe you can find at this place…
2. Community Centers and Organizations
If you want to meet trans people in a more laidback arrangement then Skipping Stone community center is the spot.
It’s a gem for the community, offering everything from workshops to support groups.
Pretty much everyone I’ve interacted with here is super kind. Would recommend this place to anyone who’s looking for an inclusive atmosphere.
Alternatively, if you’re of university age then you can also visit the University of Calgary’s Q Centre. It’s open Monday to Friday between 9 am to 5 pm and you’re likely to bump into some trans students.
And if you’re looking for more options that aren’t age-restricted then check out End Of The Rainbow Foundation.
They have a support group called TransJourneys held on the first and third Sunday of every month.
They welcome trans, intersex, non-binary, intersex and all GNC folks.
3. Trans Dating Sites
If meeting trans folks in person is tricky in Calgary, online dating sites can be a solid alternative.
With limited LGBT venues in the city, many turn to online platforms.
OkCupid, for instance, is great for making trans friends or dating, with most looking for something serious.
If you’re into more casual connections, Grindr might be the better choice.
It’s known as a gay app but has a sizable trans user base looking for no-strings-attached fun.
4. Online Groups and Pages
If you’re looking for more ways to meet TGs online, hit up the Queer Calgary Facebook group.
It’s buzzing with over 1,700 members and they throw everything from coffee meetups to beer nights. Into climbing?
There’s a Women & Trans Climbing group, though it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
And for the scoop on the latest queer events around town, the Here and Queer Events page has got you covered. Check it out to find where the trans community hangs out.
Lastly, the TransAlberta SubReddit is also surprisingly active. Try introducing yourself there and you meet some cool people!
5. Other LGBT+ Spaces
Your options for meeting trans people in this city are limited but one place that I’ll definitely recommend is Deva Dave on 16th Avenue.
Its owner Dave is a hairstylist for drag queens and has the best drag gear in the city.
But it’s not just about that, Dave is also the pillar of Calgary’s LGBT+ community.
He knows the ins and outs of the scene and even if you don’t meet trans people there, he’ll at least steer you in the right direction.
What It’s Like to Be Transgender in Calgary
Calgary’s more progressive than you might think, and generally, it’s a safe place for trans folks.
Most people here are supportive or just mind their own business.
If you ever feel uneasy at an event, the organizers usually take your concerns seriously.
The main gripe from the LGBTQ+ community is that the city’s a bit quiet on the queer scene, with only a few bars.
It’s not Vancouver or Montreal in terms of buzz, but when it comes to safety and community, this city stands strong.
So yeah, unless you’re extremely social, Calgary is a nice place to live for trans people.
Wrapping Up: Enjoy Meeting Trans in Calgary
Calgary has its ups and downs for meeting trans folks, but that’s pretty normal.
The cool part? You’re less likely to face transphobia here. Connecting with the community might need some patience, but it’s doable.
If bars aren’t your scene, there’s the community center and plenty of online options. Try different things to see what clicks for you.
Wishing you the best as you explore and meet trans individuals in Calgary!
