Finding trans people in Baton Rouge isn’t easy. It’s a small community, and there aren’t many places specifically for LGBTQ+ folks.
But there are still pockets of inclusivity throughout the city, and I’m here to help you find them.

1. Bars and Clubs
Baton Rouge isn’t too big on trans nightlife. There are only a few rainbow bars and even they are often full of gay men.
But if you’re lucky, you might encounter TGs at the following places:
George’s Place – Located at 860 St Louis St, this bar is sort of like a small home for the LGBT community in BR. You can also find trans people here, especially during drag shows.
I noticed the crowd was slightly older with most people in their mid and late 30s. But everyone was chill.
Mother’s Lounge – Located at 143 3rd St, this lounge-style bar is quickly becoming a queer hotspot.
It features a cozy dance floor, a stage, and a quieter upstairs area if you just want to sit and chat.
Cedar Crest Bar – Located at 10467 Airline Hwy, this bar mostly has a gay and lesbian crowd but it’s very inclusive so you might encounter TGs on some nights.
People often smoke hookah here, so if you are sensitive to smoke then perhaps visit another spot.
Splash Nightclub – Located at 2183 Highland Rd, this is the other prime LGBT spot, perfect for dancing and loud music.

2. Community Centers and Organizations
Baton Rouge sadly doesn’t have any trans community centers. But organizations like Louisiana Trans Advocacy host a trans support group on the last Saturday of every month.
Spectrum is also an LGBTQ+ student organization at LSU. They host fun events like board game nights and live drag shows that are great for socializing with trans and queer folks.
Aside from that, the Metropolitan Community Church is also very inclusive and they welcome queer and trans people.
But joining the Baton Rogue Pride Fest is probably the most reliable way to meet TGs here. They do fun events like pride pub crawl which are great for socializing.
3. Trans Dating Sites
Meeting transgender people can sometimes be a bit tough in person. That’s why I often turn to online dating sites.
I’m not saying these apps will instantly connect you to the trans community in Baton Rouge, but they definitely require less effort than a bar.
At a bar, you might spend time and money and still not meet any TGs.
But on a site like OkCupid, you can use search features to find trans profiles, which helps.
It’s one of my favorite sites for dating or making new trans friends as it simplifies things a lot.
And for those looking for something more casual, Grindr is a good bet. There are plenty of trans people there looking for hookups.
Plus, people on Grindr are usually upfront about what they want, so you won’t find yourself wasting time.
4. Online Groups
If you prefer meeting trans people through social media then try joining Baton Rouge LGBT.
It’s the only Facebook group I found worth mentioning since it has over 2K members.
Other than that, there’s a community on Meetup called The Rainbow Connection.
They seem to host an event for the LGBTQ+ community every other week so it’s worth checking out.
5. Other LGBT+ Spaces
If you’re looking for more inclusive spaces then the area around Louisiana State University is a nice start.
It has a lot of LGBT+ friendly businesses and most of them are packed during lunch hours.
But the safest bet is Starbucks as it usually has at least a few trans/queer folks working during the day.
Perhaps you could engage in a conversation, but make sure to find the right opportunity. Don’t bother them while they look busy.
What It’s Like to Be Transgender in Baton Rouge
Living as a transgender person in Baton Rouge is a mixed experience. Some parts are welcoming, while others have more conservative attitudes.
If you’re looking for trans-centered events or organizations, you might not find as many as you’d hope.
The local scene isn’t big on mainstream LGBT culture; it’s more about everyday life.
There are a few areas I can recommend, like Spanish Town and Highland, which are more liberal. LSU is also a friendly space, particularly if you’re a student, with many welcoming people.
In other parts of Baton Rouge, I’d suggest being more cautious, especially if you don’t “pass” as you might get nasty looks.
Interestingly, many of my trans friends with college degrees are thinking about moving to bigger cities like New Orleans in the future. I get why.
So, Baton Rouge is a bit of a mixed bag. You might not see many trans people, or you might find them in unexpected places.
It depends on your luck and the kind of people you surround yourself with.
