Best places to meet trans at Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach is pretty welcoming towards transgender individuals.

But, being ‘welcoming’ doesn’t always mean there’s a buzzing social scene for the LGBT+ community.

Sure, you can find cool places to hang out with cis people, but if you’re specifically looking to meet trans folks, it gets a bit tricky.

So if you’re wondering where to meet trans men and women at Virginia Beach then you’re at the right place.

In this article, we’ll explore everything from nightlife and support groups to online dating sites and more. So let’s dive straight into it!

List of TG Friendly Venues in Virginia Beach

1. Bars and Clubs

Tranny friendly bars and clubs at Virginia Beach

Honestly, Virginia Beach isn’t bursting with exclusive LGBT+ nightlife places.

There’s only one real queer club, Rainbow Cactus Company. Located at 475 S Lynnhaven Rd. It’s a nice place and they only charge a $5 cover fee.

Mostly for lesbians and drag shows and you can also meet a few trans folks. My only complaint is that their security is a bit overzealous.

There’s another place called Croc’s 19th Street Bistro. This one is located at 620 19th St and it’s one of the most popular spots in the city if you’re into drag brunches.

The overall atmosphere is quite inclusive so it’s also possible to encounter trans individuals. However, keep in mind that you might need a reservation in advance.

2. Community Centers and Organizations

If you’re looking for a community center then there’s one in Norfolk called LGBT Life Center.

It’s a 20 minutes’ drive away from Virginia Beach. That’s also where most trans individuals head if they’re looking for support groups.

Stonewall Sports is also pretty active in that area. As some of you may already know, it’s an LGBT+ sports organization.

You can often find trans men and women participating in their leagues.

It’s also worth keeping an eye out for Hamptons Roads Pride. They host the region’s annual Pride Festival along with other events throughout the year.

3. Trans Dating Sites

There aren’t as many spots for trans people in Virginia Beach, so most of us turn to dating apps.

And while there are a lot of apps you can try, I really like OkCupid. It’s not only great for making new trans friends but also for dating purposes.

So if you’re after casual encounters, then please stay away – yes I’m mainly referring to cis men here.

Trust me, as trans women, we come across plenty of chasers. And more often than not, they end up getting ghosted.

If you really do want something casual, then there are other apps like Grindr for that. I know, it’s a gay dating app, but nowadays, it has a ton of trans users.

Approach them with courtesy and respect and who knows, you might get lucky and score a hookup.

4. Online Groups and Pages

There are a few groups on Facebook that are made for trans folks in the Hampton Roads metropolitan area.

One of them is the Trans Masculine Support Group. It’s a support group that hosts meetings both in-person and virtual on the 1st Wednesday of every month.

The community is for people who identify as trans men and nonbinary trans masc folks.

Another one is Hampton Roads Transgender Meetup. As the name suggests, they host meetups in safe venues for the trans community.

There’s also a page by the name of YOU- LGBTQ+ Meetups. They often organize and post info about upcoming queer/trans focused events.

What It’s Like to Be Transgender in Virginia Beach

The thing about Virginia Beach is that it’s a decent place to live for trans individuals, but that’s all there is to it.

Among other cities in the Hampton Roads metropolitan area, I must say that VB is the least happening place.

There are hardly any nightlife options or organizations that host social groups for trans folks.

And usually, you have to drive to Norfolk if you want to connect with the community.

But hey, at least you’re unlikely to face discrimination as most people really don’t care about your gender status.

Whether you’re looking for employment opportunities, recreation, or just a peaceful life in general, Virginia Beach will offer it all.

Wrapping Up: Enjoy Meeting Trans in Virginia Beach

Make no mistake, Virginia Beach has a lot of cool places, but most are filled with cis folks.

But if you’re looking for a place where the trans community thrives, Great Neck steals the spotlight.

A mere 15 minutes from Downtown, it’s a vibrant hub where many LGBT+ folks call home.

Give it a shot—visit there or check out the other places we talked about. You might just find your crew in the trans community. Enjoy exploring!
